Not everyone has 100K to spend on an all show all go car. Bens car is a great example to those of us who dont have big dollars to throw at their vehicle. Simple and effective mods are where its at, and im sure soon enough it will have the brawn which you are so desperate for.

03-03-2006, 11:12 AM
I guess if you don't like the staff cars section, then don't read it. But discounting the value of a car because it has a V6 is small minded.
As someone mentioned, it will be an Alloytec 190 within the next few months with some other serious power-ups coming soon after. And VN38T is right, build ups take time, which is why we're doing other things to the car in the mean time while we get the bits and pieces sorted for the transplant.
So when we've finished completing the transplant and power ups, why don't we go for a race and see what you're complaining about then? It won't be a bonnet bulge. :)
But thanks for the feedback, you have a marvellous grasp on the use of tact.

How about you show some balls and post some power figures, and then in a few months times Wretched post his figures you can show how much of a tosser you really are.

I am speaking from the perspective of someone who loves LS1s (I am in the process of buying one) but also knows what Ben has planned for the VP and I can personally assure you that you'd be best advised to pull your head in if you really intend on running him. Having said that I'd be quite willing to go out on a limb and assume that you aren't.
It absolutely perplexes me why people feel the need to go out of their way to create a thread dissing someone else's car. Clearly you have nothing better to do. You have a V8. Ben has a V6. What's the big freakin' deal? Had this pointless thread been on anyone else's car it would be deleted and you'd be on a holiday by now. Congratulations, you are goose of the week.

Are you guys always this angry or is this a special time of the month?
Why do you have to take it to heart?
Both cars mentioned i'm sure will be quite impressive in the near future...
Surely Ben, you must see the fact that you are a public figure, from time to time you are going to have to accept a little public criticism - even if it is a little blunt like the above post.
You should learn not to take the bait.

Im not putting my car in a magzine on a monthly basis saying how good it is or what i have on the way... to me at the moment it no different to any other vn vp out there, it has a kit and painted mirrors and a stereo which might i add cost nothing if i recall rightly, thats just good fortune i guess.

well for how long was ben just a write for the mag, a fair while, they dont get everything just handed to em like u may think....... ben has built 90% of what is one his car himself and designing some very nice unique (at the time) touches that everyone with a vn- vs uses now (console and stereo surround?) IMO it is the best car to have in the magazine monthly cos 90% of readers want a nice car but can't afford to build a custom paint, custom engine custom interior beast to drive of a 3rd sunday every month. gives people ideas and shows em bigger isnt better (they should show that in porn cos im worried)

i normally don't take the bait, however in this instance it wasn't simply a passing comment in some other thread, it was a direct assault on the project and myself in the very section for the car in question. if i had have left it, it would have seemed pretty weak.

I think its more the old V8 vs the humble V6 that JHeaton is having a whinge about. Mate just because its not a V8 or lots of money hasnt been spent on the engine - doesnt mean its a piece of crap - the V6s are no slouch for a stock engine you know. When the engine plans do come to daylight like ben is in the midst of doing you will be biting your tongue and kicking yourself for making such a pointless and moronic thread im sure.
Some people have different priorities such as looks first then power, and i would much rather the look of Bens car over your thrashed stocko looking x-pig car.

it doesent matter how good or shit XXX is, IMO the main reason its in the mag each month is to show step by step directions on how certain mods are performed, to give us ideas and so we know how to apply them mods to our own commodore if we wish

06-03-2006, 11:37 PM
^^ You've hit the nail on the head.
It is to encourage "Joe Average" to get out & have some confidence to perform some mods.
Not everyone has the desire, or financial means, to own a Gen3.
I'd hazard a guess that well over 50% of buyers of the mag would either own, or used to own prior to a V8, a 6 cylinder (V or straight) commodore.

07-03-2006, 09:13 AM
I own a VS with the Ecotec, it goes but it is now V8 gen3, which i will be upgrading to next year,
Personally, i would rather look at a nice car, than think hey that thing Look SH** but hey it got all the power in the world, i don't really car abuot power.
oh yeh and when you do the research that, Sh** alloytec 6 came out Stock with more power than 5L V8 in the vn vp vr and vs, so i'm starting to think this guy needs to get a clue, just because it's only a V6 doesn't mean it doesn't have pull.
I reacon my mates toyota Supra Which is a Twin Tubro 6, or other mates Nissan 300zx which again is a Turbo 6, or what about the Nissan Skyline which everyone would have to admit are possibly faster than the average v8 Gen3 and could smashed your Ex Chaser too.

I read a DIY on one of the not so new SC mags today and the Fusion subs and amps were being installed in XXX, as well as speakers. the Total cost was just off the top of my head, around the $3000 mark. Which to me isnt exactly "nothing".

As far as i understood, XXX was featured every month, not as ben showing off what he has done, but with mods completed on it, for the DIY section of the mag. If someone didnt have a regularly featured car, what would the DIY's be performed on???
mate i no i couldnt give a stuff what u think of xxx, i no that i like it and and aslong as ben is happy with it then it dont matter what u think of it. i do have to thank ben for putting in all the diy articals because if i hadnt of seen them i wouldnt of tried them myself, so thanks ben and the rest of the SC crew, keep the great mag coming.
p.s. i own a clapped out vr v6 auto which is slightly modded, which im happy with knowing that i did all the mods myself because i cant afford to pay some one to do it for me, one day ill have my flash custom everything commy, but until then ill just tinker with my vr.

21-03-2006, 11:55 PM
just to introduce myself my name is todd, i have just registered in this forum and just bought my first 5 litre commodore which is a VP ex-chaser. People like the one with the VT ex-chaser need to understand that he bought a car already with a high powered motor in it, he didnt do it himself, he got away with it easy, so all the car has got in it is bought labour. what Wretched has got is a car he has put together himself. So what if it is a v6, it has given people a chance who have say just got their "P" plates, probably apprentices on $5 an hour and shown them how to modify their cars cheaply and effectively, and honestly the market out there at the moment is definately
V6's, you must admit just about everyone has V6's, but thats because value for money, reliability (Bet the vt ex chaser is reliable "piston slap"), and like other people have said, how often do u see a VP with an alloytec V6, and how many with a BA bonnet bulge?? you'll be driving down the street and what car you going to look at? a vt with pursuit rims or a lowered vp with a bonnet bulge, senator kit etc. i feel you dont deserve to be a commodore driver, i think you are better off with a push bike, see if your sister or cousin has one, by the way the vp looks awesome,

Well, what can i say that hasnt been said already? I'm not going to bag anyone, however I do agree with the majority.
Before I got my 2nd Gen3 I thought about for a long time getting a current comm v6 and pushing it to its limits with bolt ons and mods, and I tell you I only got the VY cause of a bit of luck and a desire to spend money there and then (well, spend the banks money:D). But I'm sure that a s/c or twin turbo V6 would kick the shit out of a Gen3, and from what I can tell, as I havent read the XXX articles yet, the n/a 6 he's got in the works will certainly give the 8's quite a challenge.
Its not about what you like or what I like, its about what the owner likes. So what if its a 6, the potential is amazing.

if you seen ben's XXX in person trust me you wouldnt be saying these things
its hot as very straight and the attention to detail and small uniqe touch's are amazing
as said before i would much rather XXX over your BT1
and when it gets its new Alloytec in it will be even better
Good luck with the rest of the project XXX
cheers
