Silly things people do to Commodores.

[VL Executive.]

Just thought Id share with everyone what I saw today.

I was driving along the hiway, (goes through town) and saw what I thought was a ratty looking old Beige VC sedan heading towards me. As it went past somthing did not look right about it, It looked like the front end did not match the rest of the car and the whole thing in general looked odd.
Anyway, did a U turn on the outskirts of town and came back into town. And noticed it parked on the side of the road near the service station. I drove slowly past to have a look at it and found out why it was different.

It was a VK sedan with VC front grille, VH orange indicator lenses, VC Chrome steel bumpers front and rear. VB - VC door mouldings, And the boot / tailight mouldings and center garnish removed. The lower half under the door moulds and bumpers was painted spray can black. :eek:

In a nutshell, It was a bad attempt to make a VK made to look like a VC. :nuts:

Has anyone else been confronted with anything similar?

Then there are the countless crossover kits etc, which in my opinion aren't that cool.


And the other one I heard (reported by Motor or Wheels around the launch of the VY) was of a guy in Sydney who liked the new VY except the back and forked out the cash to have a VX rear but on his VY. Figured the mag was a good source of info, but never heard anymore info on it. They did mention is was quite a fe $K to do though.

This was similar. But it was done very badly. Funny thing was, it was an old couple in it. Maybe he wanted the "Classic, not plastic" look.

yep i have seen it too its rediculous honestly he needed a hobby and there's a vc that some one has cut and shut vk front end bonnet head lights grill etc, and the vl rear lip it is the sec ulgyest commodore i've ever seen following the vl with the vy front.

If that green bar had been done different it would look pretty good.
As it is it works against the side shape of the car.
Curve it in like the cars shape and it would look alot better.
The grille looks part the goods I think.
That style grille would be good on its own as an alternative to a letterbox design.
Perhapes on a VP where the stock bar has that little drop between the lights.
The shapes of the air holes isn't too bad with the VN design but the straight drop of the bumper I recon doesn't work.

There used to be a pic of that VL or whatever with the VY front on this forum some where.

Exactly. I just do not see the point of making it out to be something that it is not. Apart from the LS1 engines, Chevrolet had absolutely nothing to do with the design and production of the Commodore. People who replace their Holden badges with Chevrolet badges are just discrediting and cheapening Holden's brand image. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

I have to agree, theres nothing worse than seeing a VL with a VY kit, i even saw a VK with a VT kit once, i just reckon it does not look good at all, however, there are some VK,s and VL's with some shared bodykit parts betweeen those models that do look good, i guess because they suit each other, but to take a car built in 1985 and put on a bodykit made in 2000 for example, is just not going to work

Agreed totally, When i got my VR's widows retinted i wanted to get a logo to put in the rear window, i got a chrome holden lion 12" in diameter, there was no way i was getting a HSV one, because, it isnt a HSV. I remember seeing some clown in an LX torana driving around newcastle with HSV on the rear window, how dumb? considering that the car was built at least 10 years before HSV even existed?

considering that is made by cougar body styling who did my kit..... look at the top of the window mate!!!! the race bar can look good if done right.

honestly the white vg ute with vs front end and the vy race bar from SC a few months back wiht the red lion on it. i dont think you could find a better suiting bar for it. yeah there is some stupid things people do to cars but when will people just let people be, i know my car gets mixed reactions but noone else has to live with it so its noone elses problem

Like I said, something I read in Motor... however after reading a few of the old mags you realise how much of what they say is BS.

Quite easy to see why really. The engine is the heart of any car and if Holden wants to use Chevrolet engines in it then I can see why people will badge their car as a Chevy. Heavy Machinery, Buses, Mining equipment etc is another example of where the item in question is referred to as what powerplant it has instead of who assembles it. Do you get the drift?

I personally find the Holden lion badge a bit tacky looking now anyway. It is too big I think is the main problem for me. On the front of the VZ it looks ridiculous like its smiling at you.

Chev badges on a gen3-4 dont bother me, but on V6's it makes me want to hurt someone. Also HSV badges on exec's etc, sure get the bodykit as they look good but dont badge it as something it isnt. Same goes for any car really, not fooling anyone but yourself.

That is one of my pet hates. :nono: :mad: Putting the monaro light on with the stock VT garnish.

I just shake my head in disgust every time I see it. If you want to put monaro lights on then do it properly! DONT BE LAZY! Do it properly. Either paint the stock garnish (including the reverse lights) body colour, or get a VX one!

And use to proper RED monaro lights. Not those fugly "Altezza" clear things. They make the VT - VX look ricey and crap!

Wrong. I totally disagree with that. Look at trucks for example, they are powered by engines made by Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar etc, but the trucks themselves are still badged as Kenworth, Mack, Freightliner etc etc.

And the final hate (if I dare say it) is damn Cannons on the exhaust. Uber Gay those things are.

I am a Holden purist and I am proud of what the Holden lion badge stands for and its Australian heritage. Why on earth would somebody replace it to promote an American brand which does not even sell cars in this country and has had no input in the design and production of the Commodore apart from supplying a crate engine.

Swapping the Holden badge for a Chev badge is sacrilege, end of story.

I am a Holden purist and I am proud of what the Holden lion badge stands for and its Australian heritage. i dont like cheap mock ups of hsvs that the owners think they look guenuine and sometimes call them a hsv
for starters there got to be a v8

interior hsv
rear wing
and guenuine wheels. not later ss wheels or something

Nothing wrong with the later model VT SS Wheels on a VL though. They look hot on my VL :D

But I really hate late model bodykits or any sort of kit on early model Commodores (namely VB - VL) Or the VT - VZ "made to fit" kits on the VN- VS Models.

IMO i think the guy with the VY fronted VL and VY kitted VN have done a good job at making something original. like it was said before if you put the effort in to make the kit fit properly they will look good.
If people didnt do something different we wouldnt have cars such as SENATOR which won Summernats Grand Champion this year. with such a limmited selection of peices avalible for early girls why is it such a crime to retro fit kits to them. people are all for retro fitting engines.
If it is done properly then i dont have a problem with it and the two examples i mentioned earlier i think actually look quite nice. Originality and taking risks with styles are what drive the car scene forward, why must we all bag out those that are trying to be different

its ok to put wheels, engines etc etc off later models .
but why should bodykits be any different????????????
