Followed by VSII, and HDT VL V8 as equal 2nd.
VS3800

sorry its a bit of a stupid question i reckon....
but my personal favourite would be a VS V6 or a VS GTS

I dont have one single favourite.
The ones im most fond of are the VH SL/E shadow tone burgandy over silver with the maroon interior and of course the VS S2 GTS and VN Group A
i would have 2 say the vk in a v8,owned a asteroid brock ss and a calais, looked good, went good, built with a bit of quality in mind and bullet proof reliable, and of course australian made, heaps better than any of the others, especially the post 1999 models, holden dont make a car anymore, they are to concerned with the bottom line, all they do now is rebadge crap,i could buy a corrolla and cover it in ferrari badges, but a ferrari that does not make
VS3800
24-12-2006, 02:58 PM
all they do now is rebadge crap
What do they rebadge? They just spent a little bit on developing the VE, is that a rebadged something else??

VS models looks the best but the VE hsv's are awsome
TIM-11Z
24-12-2006, 03:02 PM

Vl walkie
VL Executive.
24-12-2006, 03:43 PM
Ahhhh, The 'ol which is the best model Commodore question.......again!
My choices would be :
VL - Good looking, It had the excellent 3.0 ltr Nissan six. And easily had the best looking Calais model. And the TURBO!
VN
VS
VT / VX - The VT is an excellent looking model. It bought IRS standard across the range. And series II introduced the awesome LS1 Gen III V8!

vtz and vxz are the best. so sleak and sexy
Lawsy
24-12-2006, 03:58 PM
it would have to be the vl calais for sure,i had one about 14 years ago and to be honest i think it was a better car than my clubby, the clubby is quick and a hsv but the calais with a hdt le kit momos and a big stereo was just deadset sexy. gee i miss that car.

Mate, you really dont have a clue at all do you? Honestly!
Considering the fact that it is a) built here right in Australia (Elizabeth in fact) b) the alloytec is ozzi built too (in Melbourne) and c) the Whole Automotive Supply industry in australia relys on Holden and Ford to stay alive (due to the fact that Holden and Ford source almost all of their part in Australia; dont believe me? it was only just before the launch of the VE that Holden and Ford had to pour money into a supplier that was almost broke!)
Get your facts right before you talk so much crap!
Now, back to the thread...
1) VH SL/E (preferably Maroone on Silver)
2) VX Clubsport R8
3) V2 Series 1 Monaro
4) V2 Series 1 HSV GTS
5) VN Group A SS
6) VL "Walkinshaw" Group A SS
7) VL Calais
8) VN SS 5 Speed
9) VB SL/E 308 Pack
10) VS HSV GTS/R
And if we include concepts, the 427 C would sit in 2nd spot, the SSX concept would be somewhere in 6th or 7th, the Monaro concept would be round the bottom, and the Utester and Sandman concepts wud tussle it out for 10th :P

Id have to say out of all the stock commodores ever released the car that has the most presence on the road would have to be the Grp A Walkinshaw!..
best HSv style would have to be VS..
Cars ive always wanted would have to be the vh grp III Brock followed by the walky and then the VZ Senator Skaife :D in black with the gold met specks and the shale looking leather interior!

The best... hmm... well i once had a piece of string this long
|----------------------------------------->
You have to have respect for the VB as thats where it pretty much began for the commodore. I'm not a fan of eeeaarrrlllyyyyy girls, but you have to admire the beginnings to appreciate the road to today's machines!
Will have a soft spot for the VL Directors largely for the rareity factor but they had alotta junk in that trunk in terms of bodykit haha.
VN SS group A, VS for best commodore styling especially in the caprice and hsv grange series, VX Clubsport R8 for ultimate sex on wheels, but the new breeds like VE GTS for the latest edge on performance and safety technologies.
Hell, im fairly sure that as long as it has 8 cylinders and a beefy exhaust its ok by me.
Edit:
Oh and anything from the VZ series, i mean anything with a 'Z' in the title is just plain cool, Limp Bizkit styles haha *eyes roll*
Beno.

VK does it for me as well as the VH they are both the toughest looking commodores of all time.
HSV VS Senator I think was the best looking of the HSV's
VS SS just a nice looking car
VE cause it is 100% Aussie designed & built & shows the world how a car should bee!!

meh, they used to rebadge and refine/further develop/style the opel omega's as the commodore, so you cant say 'all they do now is rebadge crap' as the VE is totally new and was designed right here, everything b4 the VE however wasn't.
As for the best model its a hard call but i can't go past the VS for its lines and being the last model of that particular architecture.

by far the best lookn bodykit too. ve looks a little bland and not agressive enough. blame the europens for that mistake. rear bar is th worst bit. if it was the same as the gts-r prototype monaro built in 2004 it would look heaps tougher instead of the tamed down version they have

04-01-2007, 05:17 PM
best model, id have to say vr vs. But my fav shape has to b the rear of a VX clubby, and the front of a VZ R8.
Guy a cpl doors up from me has had a silver vx clubby, red vy clubby and now a blue vz clubby, and i loved them all.
*VOLATILE*
05-01-2007, 07:54 AM
Personally, I think that the VT model would undoubtedly be the sexiest shaped Commy Holden has rolled off the line.
The VX HSV range would be right up there for as well as the VN SS and the shape on the new VE's.
From the front end, the new VE Clubby would be one of the most aggressive looking front ends I have ever seen from Holden; until you take a look at it's ass. The new tail-lights it has are so damn small it looks sooooo strange on such a beautiful muscle car. Anyone else think the same?

i would say the cars that you think of when you think commodore would be the vl and the vt. on the road you see more vt's then any thing else i swear. vt's were also the first commodores that were really pushing the idea of airbagas and was also the firsdt model with a 5.7.
vl or vt for sure!!!!!and also vb's because they share the name of a great beer and without the succes of them commodores could have never been continued!

Overall for me it would have to be the VH Group 3 SS, mind you that is probably because I was a (young) teenager when they came out.
For the 6 brigade it would have to be the VL...the only one with a decent engine...
.....and the biggest dunger would be a tie between the first of the VN's and any of the Starfire 4's.

Without sounding biased, I would definitely say the VT. Absolutely gorgeous shape, well rounded and not too over the top. Next to the VE, the VT is still one of the sexiest shapes of the Commy going around.
Oh and another fave of mine is the VN (particularly the VN SS in Atlas Grey; bloody hot!!! ;))

VLs, across the board, but especialy Calais, them 'eyelids' just look plain horny to me...
VS, for the body shape.
VT s1, for the ultimate refinement of the 5ltr.
But mostly just VLs...
Not a suprising response from a vicorian tho

MINE! Easy answer to stupid question. All commodores have good and bad points, the best is the one's we own. There the one's we spend time money and effort to maintain, modify and drive. Untill you have owned and driven each and every model commodore you can't be the judge of which is the best to drive, the best looking, the best handling the most comfortable etc.
My commodore is a VG ute that is undergoing a massive rebuild. when it is finished it will be the best commodore. then it will be sold and it will start all over again with something else.

the best is probably the latest VE, but IMO the VL commodore (in turbo form) for its time was way ahead of anyting else that was "austrailan" at the time. After years of below average performance (aside from the VKSS blue meanie) it was a breath of fresh air

The VE from a technical point of view is superior to any other Commodore. The chassis is 3 times more rigid, the suspension is superior, heaps of standard features, and it's the safest of all Commodores in accident.
However, when it simply comes down to appearance, style, character, size etc, I love the VH - and that's why I own one! I like the size, not too big, not too small, hasn't got a high bootline - so great visibility from inside the car. It's a good combination of old school (last of the steel bumpers) and modern. And I reckon they look the sleekest and have the smoothest lines out of VB-VK
my least favourite Commodore would be the second gen ie VN-VS. They were a compromised design. Retained the same front track as the VL, yet the rear track and overall car was significantly wider so they had to taper the nose over the narrow front track. Firewall was sikaflexed in (what was GMH thinking...) which resulted in a weak, flimsy chassis. Interiors on VN/VP were really ugly, the VN Calais in particular was an embarassment for Holden's flagship car...

I have always liked the look of the VN SS (used to own one)... The VS GTS is really nice too (had one of them as well). I like the look of the VX SS and HSVs.... but my favourite Commodore would have to be the VY SS, or the VZ Clubsport. If you include Monaros then the CV8Z and the VY GTS Coupe win hands down.

I thought the VN-VS has a better/stronger chassis then the VL, i mean the only reason im thinking this is due to House of Power putting a supercharged LS1 into a VL and they couldnt shut the doors after a few dyno pulls as the chassis had twisted, yet the same motor in a VS wasnt a problem.
But the sikaflex things sounds really dodgy if its true

could depend on the individual car, they've had some big horsepower early model cars too with no chassis issues. But I can assure you the firewall is sikaflexed in. I've got the 'project VN' book which mentions it & illustrates it, and if you look under the bonnet at the firewall of any VN-VZ, just under the plenum chamber you'll actually see the sikaflex join. The only reason GMH came up with the idea was to speed up production of the car. The entire dash was assembled to the firewall out of the car, and then dropped into the car and sikaflexed in via the windscreen opening.
The main criticism motor reviewers had of the VN Group A, when compared to the VL Walkinshaw, was the sloppy chassis. And when you consider the design of the VN chassis was virtually a stretched VL chassis without the strength of a welded firewall, kind of makes sense too.
The biggest weakness VK/VL's had was the rear portion of the car. Once they replaced the rear quarter sheet metal with the quarter glass the rear of the car lost significant rigidity. Maybe the VN might have picked up something there, but they received a lot of criticism for the flimsy chassis. And I remember having to fix all the creaks and squeaks in VN's which really could only be put down to excessive twisting and movement of the chassis compared to previous models. I remember being able to put my finger between the gap at the top of the door frame whilst driving, feeling the gap opening and closing onto my finger as I drove along. And the VN chassis stayed unchanged up to and including VS. VT received a revised version of the chassis, but still had the sikaflexed firewall. VE was the first model to go back to a welded firewall.

it has to be the first (VB) first for everything in australia: 4spd, struts, commodore Bathurst, the vb had this over all other aussie cars and that it will be the first commodore forever you cant say that about neother, also in terms of technology the ve speaks for itself costing 1billion. The vb was compared to the bmw's just like the ve. The first and last commodores are the best but the ve will be forgotten sooner or later unlike the very 1st(VB).
