I'm planning on coming. Last year we all met at the shell at EPIC but it looks like it's closed. Does anyone know if its just shut for renovation or shut for good. Usually we get a few people meet up on the way ie Yass turnoff and goulburn etc.

Ahh ok, would be good but will c closer to the time. Shell Epic is closed for 3 months as of Summernats (so another month or so probably) and will re open as woolworths caltex. What I heard, have heard other things but thats the most common lol.

the usual drill is meet at 5am, depart at 5:30am sharp, meeting at shell servo @ epic, but since its closed down, might be better to go up the road to that other servo near the round-about so people can fill up, wash cars, etc,

there is always a stopover at marulan/sutton forrest maccas for breakfast at whatever time we get there, usually 7ish, stay there for 30 mins and cruise on to Sydney.

I will be there in my white VR with a bunch of the RH/NDK people, some of us will be staying the night near darling harbour and probably kicking on at the casino later on for those interested in joining the entourage of ACT people,

19-07-2010, 03:03 PM
hey all...any plans to move the meet point for the Canberra meet up this year? Shell servo is still closed and doesn't look to be opening before August 7...according to the facebook link there are like 130 cars meeting this year (although I think it was about the same last year and there ended up being closer to 40 there)...so we need somewhere larger in any event...there's a decent sized carpark next to the netball courts on northbourne..but otherwise theres the next petty station up near the roundabout?

....any ideas??

Naybour
19-07-2010, 03:26 PM
I think meeting at a servo would be a better idea. Then people wont get split up if they have to get fuel/carwash/munchies. There is a fair bit of room at the caltex servo near Forumla1, and if it gets full, people can start lining up on the side of Antill Street which is pretty quite at 5am.

Another option could be the Shell Servo in Dickson. There is that carpark along Antill Street (other end) and then there is the wooly's carpark if that overflows. Problem is the traffic lights splitting everyone up when we start the cruise. People should be able to catch up once on the highway though.

I'm easy though, I'll meet wherever.

OK so I'm bored at work waiting for a script to finish. So I drew up some dodgy maps of the location ideas

Yellow is 'regular'parking
Green is 'overflow' parking

Also, how do we intend on getting through Sydney to Homebush? Google maps is telling me the best way is through the M7, which would not have been my first guess:

Easiest way is to follow the people who have been on the cruise a few times, its pretty easy, but last year we didnt go up the M7- stuck to the M5 then took King Georges Rd from memory- i think the M7 way is definitely the long way round..

I usually go along liverpool rd, through Warwick Farm, Lansvale etc
Either turn onto Woodville rd;

or Centenery dve;

No tolls and they're about the same time/distance.

Hey guys I agee with option 1 for the meeting point. In past experience being near fuel, food and toilets is the easiest way to keep a group together.
As for getting into sydney I usually go in along the M7 but thats just what i find easy and the fact that i have an e-tag means i dont really care much lol. Am more than keen just to follow along.

if you aren't on facebook- the meet point has been moved to the next servo up near the formula one. all other details still the same (meet 4.30 for 5.00am departure)...:woo:

BTW, my old man has a mobile coffee van, and is willing to be out at the servo at 430am if enough people show interest.

If anyone would like some nice, fresh coffee to wake you up at stupid o'clock, please put your interest here...

$3.50 for a standard or $4.00 for a large.
Larger cups (ie servo/starbucks plastic mugs) by request.

Cheers.

Me and the Wagon will be there, with bells on, although my brother has opted out... oh well.

Turbos really like icey cold morning air> someone will need to stay in front of me to stop me from zooming LOL.

Is there any unofficial idea about stopping at Maccas @ Sutton Forest for some drive-thru sustenance? I know i will be doing this...

I think the plan is to stop there for about 1/2 an hour. To 'Stop, Revive, Survive'...lol... It would take too long to get 40 or so cars through the drivethrough.

other people seem to join the cruise from canberra at the maccas stop as well, so its good to be there for a bit..plus the gates at homebush dont open til 8 this year anyway so no point leaving canberra at 5 and going straight through cause we'd get there too early..

hahaha, well at least that way we'd get decent parking spots and wouldnt get caught up for half an hour getting out when its cruise time LOL.

Getting keen... but got a list as long as my arm to do on my car. Oh well :D

So on the way back, I sat on 115 the whole way, except that part on the highway that the road is straight, but is pretty steep, down, then up again, on a bridge.... I let it just roll to 130, and kept that up until the top of the hill again (didnt want to ride the brakes, and it gets you up and over the hill in a bit more of a flow I guess, haha) ...... and I got booked damn it!
ugh.
